Bay Area Capital Connections XIII: Imagining Our New Selves
The 2021 conference theme was Imagining Our New Selves. Sessions covered practical topics related to bolstering our organizations as we enter a new phase of economic development that is adapted to a world with constantly changing rules.
As our entrepreneurial community begins its tumultuous climb out of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are at the forefront of reimagining how we cultivate a supportive ecosystem for all community members. We know the nature of the problems that persist in the Bay Area – in most cases, we know many viable solutions, too. Seizing on the opportunity for massive change presented to us, how can we build better systems as we look toward the Bay Area’s future? What roles must we play, and what tools do we need? Who else must be in the room?
Through BACC XIII, we hope to hold space for innovative conversations that reimagine and actively think through comprehensive entrepreneurial wellbeing, equitable designs for workplaces, and relationships with culturally-aware capital lenders. By holding the conference virtually for the second year in a row, we hope to keep this content accessible to the entire community regardless of the changing situation with the Covid-19 pandemic.
We will be holding a virtual reception this year, with food and beverages from local entrepreneurs available for pickup beforehand. Join us for a celebration of our community!

About this year's conference artist:
Iris Alula Lai Costa is a Bay Area born artist, currently based in Oakland. Recently graduated from the Arts and Humanities program of Berkeley High School, they are now exploring and extending their knowledge in the world of art at Berkeley City College, with plans to continue further studying at the University of California Santa Cruz. She is a multimedia artist who enjoys breaking the boundaries and confines of art by working with a combination of paper cuts, linoleum block carvings, water color, embroidery, collage, and charcoal. Iris Alula believes that everything the light touches and beyond is art. That the physical pieces we know and perceive as art, are an extension of our core beings and the lives and stories we wish to share. She strives to create art that will embrace the rawest forms of human emotion, and hopes to positively impact viewers as they empathize and connect with her pieces, in turn inspiring them to embrace and create their own art.
